Welkom by die FAK

Welcome to the FAK
(Federation of Afrikaans Cultural Organisations)
The Federasie van Afrikaanse Kultuurorganisasies (FAK) (Federation of Afrikaans Cultural Organisations) was established on December 18th, 1929, in Bloemfontein SA, by a number of eminent Afrikaner cultural leaders. It was their intention to draw together all Afrikaners and their cultural organisations in order to design and execute a joint programme for the propagation and preservation of the Afrikaans language and culture in all spheres of life. A Federation of all the organisations involved was then established under the motto ‘Handhaaf en Bou’ ( ‘Maintain and Build’).
- the establishment, inter-linking, maintenance and advancement of Afrikaner interests and the maintenance and propagation of the Afrikaans language and culture.
- Today, the FAK is still pursuing its original aims of the preservation of the autonomy of each of its member-organisations.
The FAK pursues its aims
- by acting as a networking mechanism for Afrikaner organisations through joint actions, by reducing the amount of duplication in their activities and by enabling joint actions in the interests of the Afrikaner community. The FAK liaises with its members by means of regular conferences, seminars, meetings and written communiqués.
- by mobilising knowledgeability and knowledge within the Afrikaner community and by encouraging the participation and involvement of Afrikaners with their community and with the broader SA communities.
- by acting, in its liaison, as meta-political commentator in respect of Afrikaner interests, i.e. by viewing the sets of underlying pre-suppositions and its political treatment critically with the view to dealing with them in such a way as to bestow them with significance and directional properties.
- by acting as champion for the use of Afrikaans at the highest levels in the practise of the arts, the sciences and education.
FAK Office:
The head-office of the FAK is situated on the premises of the Voortrekker Monument in Pretoria, right next to the monument itself, in the house originally designed for the caretaker, named “Amper Bo” (Eng. “Almost-at-the-top”, “Almost there”). The house was designed by the architect, Gerard Moerdyk, who also designed the Voortrekker Monument and many other landmarks in South Africa and elsewhere. The office is run by the Executive Officer, Ms Linette van der Merwe and the Administrative Officer, Ms Sarie Marais.
